About Us
Our Organization
Students for Shelters is an unincorporated Not-for-Profit organization founded by Hannah Benyamin and Breanna Lakhan. For the most part, our operations take place on post-secondary campuses.
The mission of our organization is to encourage communities to take local action and donate smaller items that are not always thought of. We also participate in other forms of action to raise awareness and act in solidarity with those in need. Our community unites students from diverse backgrounds and brings them together under one common objective - helping others. In turn, we are hoping to create a lasting impact on students and others’ lives in a positive way.

Currently, our chapters can be found at the University of Toronto St. George Campus (home chapter) and at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus.

We acknowledge and appreciate the traditional territory upon which we operate. This land has a long and tangled (hi)story that carries the storied footprints of the Huron-Wendat, Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit River nations. Toronto has a treaty with the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation, and is part of the Dish With One Spoon agreement to share the land between the Anishinaabek and the Haudenosaunee nations. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land. In moving toward reconciliation we seek to polish the Silver Covenant Chain and to restore the relationship with the original peoples of this land, one based on honour and deep respect.
